Ghost also has a lovely desktop app for macOS. I've just downloaded and installed it on my MBA and posting this from that app. The Desktop app has the same familiar look and feel of the web interface. As you must have made out from my earlier posts earlier today, I had just signed up for Ghost 14 days trial version only a few hours ago and my first impressions have been good. It seems like a easy to use simple and elegant blogging platform.
Let me try out posting a image from this desktop app to see how it works. Here we go…
This photo was taken by myself in May 2008, when I visited the Mother Ship for the first time. During that visit, I bought my 1st Apple Notebook - MacBook Air, 1st Generation, which I still own.
Taking a day off at home today and tomorrow. The plan was to catch up with the daughter. Instead I was getting on with some day job stuff from home, as the daughter is either still asleep or awake & still stay inside her room :(
Here I'm using quill app on my smartphone to post this, while we are waiting at the airport arrivals for the daughter to come out. She is coming home for little less than a month during her spring holidays. The aircraft was on blocks at 19 minutes past mid night. More than 30 minutes gone now, she's still waiting for her luggage to arrive. Just got a call to say, she just collected her bags.
I just came across this nifty little app on Android that let you do blog posts on the go. It looks beautiful and hopefully functional too Oh, well it even lets you upload images from your image library like this
After spontaneous inspiration I had this afternoon and posting a couple of blog posts on 10C. I thought I'd try this out. I have heard so many good things about this service and why not give it whirl. I wasn't sure sure though how Ghost will look like on iOS device; but here I'm typing this on my iPad Pro.
Let me try uploading an image
So, the easiest way to upload an image is to hit Control+Shift+I to create image upload box and select the image from cloud storage. You can upload images from a range of cloud storages such as:
iOS Photos
Google Drive
Dropbox
iCloud Drive
One Drive
But, hey, that photo didn't get uploaded to correct orientation..
To upload multiple images, same process as above will have to be followed.
Okay, that's enough writing for 1st ever testing. Let me now hit publish Oh! it even has Update Post feature, which is cool ? Just found out, we can delete any posts also. I know comparison of different blogging platform is hard, but having being used 10C for quite long time, a few things i found
10C's founder and sole developer Jason is very passionate and committed to develop, maintain and improve the platform even better.
10C has a straight forward login screen easy to find. In Ghost, one has to remember the logon screen URL.
10C has footnotes and that's a biggie! I haven't still been able find how to do footnotes on Ghost.
10C has social elements and syndication.
You can have plenty websites on 10C for as little as less than $100 yearly subscription.
10C is very fast and responsive
Ghost has a beautiful, easy to use UI.
Ghost markdown preview as you write is useful feature
You're live! Nice. We've put together a little post to introduce you to the Ghost editor and get you started. You can manage your content by signing in to the admin area at <your blog URL>/ghost/. When you arrive, you can select this post from a list on the left and see a preview of it on the right. Click the little pencil icon at the top of the preview to edit this post and read the next section!
Getting Started
Ghost uses something called Markdown for writing. Essentially, it's a shorthand way to manage your post formatting as you write!
Writing in Markdown is really easy. In the left hand panel of Ghost, you simply write as you normally would. Where appropriate, you can use shortcuts to style your content. For example, a list:
Item number one
Item number two
A nested item
A final item
or with numbers!
Remember to buy some milk
Drink the milk
Tweet that I remembered to buy the milk, and drank it
Links
Want to link to a source? No problem. If you paste in a URL, like http://ghost.org - it'll automatically be linked up. But if you want to customise your anchor text, you can do that too! Here's a link to the Ghost website. Neat.
What about Images?
Images work too! Already know the URL of the image you want to include in your article? Simply paste it in like this to make it show up:
Not sure which image you want to use yet? That's ok too. Leave yourself a descriptive placeholder and keep writing. Come back later and drag and drop the image in to upload:
![A bowl of bananas]
Quoting
Sometimes a link isn't enough, you want to quote someone on what they've said. Perhaps you've started using a new blogging platform and feel the sudden urge to share their slogan? A quote might be just the way to do it!
Ghost - Just a blogging platform
Working with Code
Got a streak of geek? We've got you covered there, too. You can write inline <code> blocks really easily with back ticks. Want to show off something more comprehensive? 4 spaces of indentation gets you there.
.awesome-thing { display: block; width: 100%; }
Ready for a Break?
Throw 3 or more dashes down on any new line and you've got yourself a fancy new divider. Aw yeah.
Advanced Usage
There's one fantastic secret about Markdown. If you want, you can write plain old HTML and it'll still work! Very flexible.
That should be enough to get you started. Have fun - and let us know what you think :)
